Traditional terrace waterproofing methods in India include brick bat coba, tarfelt and bituminous treatment. However, these methods have their own limitations and are now being replaced by advanced and innovative solutions such as roof waterproofing paints, primers and sealants.

For instance, the brick bat coba system is one of the most common flat roof waterproofing methods and mainly involves placing brick bats on roofs to make a slope that facilitates smooth water drainage. Problem – Water leakage from terrace and Expansion Joints Failure.

Diagnosis – As building was not in use for few years therefore due to poor maintenance stagnant water on terrace plants and vegetation came up on terrace leading to cracks on RCC expansion was not packed properly PCC was laid over expansion joints leading to further cracks. Cracks were exposed, coving repaired damaged bitumen felts were removed and PU based bitumen applied. Expansion joint was repaired after removing PCC and old rubber based system.
