How Tiles on your Terrace leads to Waterproofing Issues

How Tiles on your Terrace leads to Waterproofing Issues

Cracking grouts, it is important to understand what is grout and where is it used. Grout is a viscous form of concrete which is used to seal gaps and joints such as those between tiles and stones. It generally forms a waterproof seal while ensuring that the edges of the tiles do not chip or break. Broadly speaking, it can be of various types depending on its functional usage – tiling, flooring and structural purposes.

Causes of Cracking Grouts
Although there can be several reasons for the grout to crack and this can be ascertained by careful examination, some of the more common causes are linked to the amount of water used to prepare the mixture, insufficient adhesive and improper curing. Again, substandard products used in the grouting can also affect its longevity and give rise to cracks. If the installation of the tiles is poorly done then too it is possible that the grouts may develop cracks over a period of time.

It is absolutely essential that the materials that are used in construction are of high quality and can protect against wear and tear, and should also be able to withstand various climatic conditions. The primary function of all the construction materials is to construct a strong and durable structure which can protect against heat, cold and snow, as well as other factors, such as dirt, grime and pollution. The importance of using the right type of grout, with the correct ancillary products, is often underrated. In fact, not using grout causes the edges of tiles to crack and chip, eventually leading to weak tiles that break easily.
